Get to Know Your Sewing Machine

These beginner's classes cover the very basics of machine sewing.  You will start by learning about machine maintenance, needles, threads and accessories, the balanced stitch, essential sewing tools and utility stitches.  The second class will cover applique and putting in a zip.  Fabrics are included.

 

These are Thursday evening classes between 7pm and 9pm.   Refreshments are provided. 

 

Booking is essential.  

 

The cost of each class is £20.  Each class can be booked individually.

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday's we run daytime classes.  These are patchwork and quilting classes for beginners and more advanced sewers.  The classes are in blocks of 10 and follow the school terms.  Liz does all Tuesday classes and Linda does all classes on Wednesday and Friday.

ZIPPY BAG

This workshop is with Liz to make a little bag with three zipped compartments.

This is a project for sewers that have a good level of sewing experience and can insert zips or want to practice inserting them. It uses four fat quarters of a coordinated fabric line but it can be made as you wish out of approx 1 meter of fabric. There are quite a few components so please cut out the fabric before the class.  You will need to pin the measurements to each piece. Instructions will be given prior to the workshop.

Brother Embroidery Machine Demonstration and Support Day

Rachel from Brother will be with us between 10am and 4pm.  She will be demonstrating the Brother Embroidery Machines and available to give support and advice if you have bought one of these machines from us.  

No need to book, just come along on Wednesday 23 October.

PRINT AND STITCH POUCH

 

This workshop is with Liz and is to make a perfect little pouch.  Once made you will see the potential for making bigger or smaller ones.

 

You will need to provide the base fabric. Liz suggests a calico or plain fabric as ideal to stamp your chosen pattern on.  If you have not printed with stamps before, this will be an ideal project for you to see if you would like to take the technique further.  Liz will bring some stamps and fabric paints which can be used at a cost of £5, payable directly to Liz, or you can bring your own.

IRON CADDY

This workshop with Jean is to make a great little iron caddy!  The inside of the caddy can be made with heat reflective material so that it can be opened out to make the perfect ironing surface.

LITTLE CONCERTINA BOOKS

 

This workshop is with Liz. Choose to make a concertina book from either fabrics that you have or from Liz's eco dyed and printed fabrics; or you could do a combination of both.  Liz will bring packs of eco dyed fabric and papers.  They are of £3 per pack and payable to Liz. 

 

The front cover of the book is a hand stitched, it could be a flower, initial or abstract design of your choice.  It will be a relaxing and productive day!

BIRDS

This workshop is with Linda.  Choose your birds to make during the workshop and take the other patterns home.

 

This workshop is a perfect for sewers with less experience and it uses the applique technique.  You will need to provide the main fabric but our 'bag of scraps' will be available for some of the smaller pieces if needed.

FABRIC BOXES

This workshop is with Liz to make fabulous lined fabric boxes.  The boxes are 6" square and can be made in vibrant colours or a mixture of plain and patterned fabrics.  

 

This is a project for sewers with minimal experience.  You will require 4 x fat quarters, 1 x metre wide pelmet vilene/stiff interfacing, 3 x metres of bonda web, 2 metres of cording or cotton string.... plus threads and your sewing machine!
